Just can't get enough of these Etruscans! Check out my photo of that scary guy sculpture! Yikes! This Etruscan Museum of Orvieto is located inside the Palazzo Faina, in Piazza Duomo. It shows off the many the finds from the local excavation sites. Included are wonderful items dating to the 5th century B.C., inspire by Classical Ancient Greek Art, of which the Etruscans heavily traded with contributing immensely to their accumulated wealth. My personal interest was the huge collections of Roman Coins from the Republican and Imperial periods, displayed in rigorous chronological order. I have my own collection, nothing like this. The second floor displays rooms entirely dedicated to Etruscan ceramics. Some many items such as Etruscan tombs and urns, paintings, scary masks, gold bracelets, vases and so on. Public bathrooms available.

Outstanding Etruscan collection. Wonderful. As a bonus the view of the Cathedral from this museum is incredible! Highly recommended.

A strange experience, a museum seemingly more intent on telling you about its founders than about the history or context of its exhibits. We had previously visited the museum and tombs at Cerveteri (on the coast between Orvieto and Rome) where we enjoyed the 3D displays and audio explanations, so were surprised at the lack of explanation here. In fact you get more insight into 19th century Italian life than 6th century Etruscans - the display boards say that the 19th century desire to collect and display ancient artefacts ran up against resistance from those who saw this as an attack on personal property and privacy; and that collectors were sometimes motivated by a desire to escape the uncertainties and challenges of modern life by burying themselves in the past! Excellent view of the Duomo from the first floor balcony.

(Translated by Google) Museum with very interesting Etruscan finds. Too bad that the rooms are not air-conditioned, with my family we were forced to interrupt the visit after a few minutes because the heat was really excessive, almost fainting. On leaving, we pointed this out at the ticket office and the staff simply nodded, without adding anything else. Bad personal experience! Esperienza personale pessima!
